Free wall art

We’ve been in our house over a year and I have yet to put anything above our couch. I finally got serious this weekend and did it! I used an old door that was in the basement. We’ve used this thing twice. Once as a desk top and another time for a table top. It was the perfect width for above our couch.

It was already painted white from its last use. The blue was paint we had leftover from another project. I used this chevron template from Sunset’s website.

I tried their directions without much success. So I spent a long, long time tracing the pattern, then taping it off.

DSCF7132I messed up a bit and had to do some erasing 🙂

Just a couple of coats of the blue paint and viola. I’ve really been loving the chevron patterns I’ve been seeing around. It really adds a pop of color, fills that blank space and best of all it was free!

Object artwork

I found this on Design Sponge a couple of weeks ago. Kate made it as a Valentine’s gift, but I just love the idea…I’m always collecting different artwork ideas for the day when I actually get things on our walls.

We have a huge baggie of keys left over from the original owners (they were a little obsessed with locking everything in the house) Maybe I could use those to make a pretty picture like this…hmm

If you’d like to make your own, directions here.

Get yourselves to OfficeMax, stat!

I don’t know about you guys, but I lovve posters. I’ve been wanting to blow up one of our professional pics for a while now. I only have rights to two images at the moment and we’ve just been poor, so I haven’t just yet. But my good friends at OfficeMax have a deal that I just couldn’t pass up. Their 18×24″ prints are only $5.99 through Saturday! I think they usually run around $30. That’s one awesome deal, folks.

My mind is reeling with gift ideas..I better get on the ball if I’m going to make the Saturday deadline. The guy at my store said the deal may run through Christmas, but they won’t know until Saturday.

Anyhow…here’s my poster! I picked up a cheapo frame from Walmart. Total cost with the poster was around $25. I think it’s pretty fancy..Now, where to hang? hmm….
